Unfortunatley, I the adapter I use for the 3rd monitor for my MBP turns off Quartz and it doesn't work. That forces me to unhook it just for a screencast.

I have also tried ScreenFlow. It's nice and simple to use. I am looking at using this one, however I wanted to get opinions from the field (you) on what application you use and like.

Go to yourdomain.tld/setup where you will create your admin user

It's meant to be extended for your use and not a one size fits all package. That is why it is pretty bare. I built it as there are a few planned projects I have that will require some of the same functionality such as user management.

The admin controllers are in the controllers/admin folder keeping them separate from the other controllers.

As a note. It does run 2 hooks. application/hooks/AccessControl.php ( IsSetup and CheckLoginAccess )

The integration they did with the google products is nice. Such as seeing any notification when I am in my email. It does take a while to load though I am not on the best connection around. Often times I see pages partially reloading as it is pulling in new information from plus.google.com such as search results in a tab that has been open for a while.

It's quite filter your stream by your circles.

Chat works the same as Gmail. You can turn off chat in G+ but it can stay active in your email even in the same browser. I generally keep my email open all the time so this is nice that it doesn't kill it across all google services.

Sparks I just got into this morning. I find it well done for specific topics. If you do something like "technology news" you will get a bunch of crap compared to "microsoft sharepoint".

Circles was well done. There have been so many people I have had to show how to make lists on facebook. Most of these people don't know G+ exists, but I can't imagine them having as hard of a time as they had.

The design of the pages are quite bland but it works really well for them and me.

Overall I like it. I haven't posted a lot on it but it looks promising. It's also a lot less buggy than facebook when it comes to javascript actions.

Does anybody know how to set the default circle to post to? That would make life a little easier.

I understand using services such as bit.ly for twitter where you are severely limited on how much you can post. I run across these services all the time now to include being on blog posts.

My problem is that most of my day I spend using an internet provider (awesome military network) that blocks access to all the common shortening services. Do you guys run into this problem? I imagine this is going to be a bigger issue when these places close up shop and tons of links stop working.

Another question. More towards articles/blogs that shorten their urls. Doesn't this affect link building? Essentially they are losing that opportunity for Google to rank them a little higher and giving it to these services.

Do you think an app in the store will be less likely to be bought if the price is over a couple dollars/euros/etc? I guess I am more apt to buy Transmit for example from the Panic website versus the App Store due to the fact I associate the App Store with mobile phones and wouldn't spend $34 on a mobile phone application. It does help the applications get more publicity but how many people are ingrained with that association?

Hey,

I and my friend want to make a small program that would make some artistic animations by taking some kind of input. Algorithm is our problem, we will figure it out but I want to separate the engine with the script that does all that stuff. I though about engine getting the screen handler and stuff while it would interpret some other code that decides what to show. I was thinking of Python. Do you think it's good and simple enough? I mean, is the integration to C++ problematic? Is it fast enough? Will, most importantly, it support OpenGL? Well, it can be done through C++ function wrapped with Python syntax but I'm just askin' to know how much I have to code.

P.S. Artistic animation means something like Windows Media Player does using music.

I'm always curious as to what languages people are working on, not because I want to feel superior but because sometimes I've found out about languages I've never heard of and end up being quite useful (such as Prolog or Haskell). So I'm curious as a discussion as to what languages people are mostly working in nowadays.

For me it's

C# - Usually for corporate jobs involving the SharePoint or ASP.Net environment

Ruby/Rails - Just for fun and because I actually love the language

HTML/CSS - Goes without saying, but I've found that the more I work with these markup languages the more I begin to produce better looking websites and begin to get the feel for user experiences

Java - Despite the hatred from some developers I always find myself in Java for developing backend solutions to problems where things like Ruby can't scale such as backend daemons. I also was developing an LED display before it was packed up in a box

Perl - I do enjoy this little language because it gave me a good introduction in Regexp

Last night I was looking through a merchant gateway SDK reading the license agreement and came across a tidbit that interested me.

Basically it said you can include this SDK in your work that you sell/distribute as long as it's not used in England, Germany, France, etc. etc.. Anyone ever run into that in the past? It kind of sucks that I have to roll my own just because I don't want to limit my target audience to certain countries.

Does anybody know of a decent SMS Gateway company? I was using Clickatell for quite some time with different projects, however they ran into a spam issue in the U.S. and now require a dedicated shortcode which is quite expensive.

I have searched SMS gateways, but have any of you used a different one?

Why is Java so irritating (and popular)?

Hi,

(I'm still alive!) I've been learning Java recently, and I've not really liked it as a language.

Java has to run on a virtual machine, so it isn't compiled in the same way that C/C++ are. At the same time, it doesn't have the advantages that a languages like Python have. So, it gets rid of pointers and many other small things that aren't pleasant in C/C++. But you still have to worry about how things work in C++ to be able to get things to work in Java: primitive types are passed by value, objects are passed as pointers (so you still need to understand pointers); you have to use a .equals method to compare strings (and still have to worry about that "\0" even though you are never told anything about it) so you cannot use == to compare strings even though a = "hi"; b="hi"; result in a==b being true; arrays are almost as bad as in C++ and the ArrayList (which isn't even as powerful as it could be) isn't even imported by default!

I feel like I've got a more blunt sword, and wearing more armor, have a few of my fingers taken off and am supposed to fight the same guy when compared to C++. With the same analogy Python would be a sword with one end completely blunt (the one that I can accidentally poke myself with) and the other as sharp, the sword itself much lighter and it comes with built in cool tricks that you can pull off that will make your enemy shriek and jump.

So why is Java so popular?
