I actually have one... In a box :p Got it for one of my birthdays but I don't really play with it but after I saw your plane... I do want :) Probably tomorrow. Hopefully I won't break it before the taking off :)
I had plans for the body from a PDF file. The rest I put together. There is a motor where it randomly gaps. I just didn't have the propeller on it at the time.
It's beat up a bit now. It wasn't flying to good, then I made some adjustments. 1. I made the ailerons/elevators (they are mixed as 1) span the entire side of the wing. 2. I moved the battery to the right side instead of the middle. All the other radio equipment is on the left side, and even though the electronics are very light, it made a huge difference. The good thing is, I made it out of foam, so hot glue works great to put it back together. Or, make a new plane using more foam.
Edit: Oh yeah. That picture is before I really beat it up. I moved the battery to far forward for a bit more control.
That looks great!! I had an R/C plane once, but I have since crashed it and never gotten another one. Would love to get back into it! You said foam, what exactly is it? and how aero-dynamic are they? not to say anything bad, but they look like big paper airplanes. how long does it take to put one together?
The most recent pics. . I put a bigger prop on and it screwed it up (and chopped one of the servo wires somehow).. Spent like 3-4 hours and rebuilt it and testing sometime today.
As for aero-dynamic, they do ok. The last picture wasn't glued yet on the nose. It did fly amazing though. With the right combination of electric motor, prop, and battery you could probably push a big foam block through the air. The cool thing about these "foamies" as they are called, your cuts don't have to be perfect. While I try to get pieces to match up 100% it's damn near impossible so as long as I get it close it will fly.
Edit: Also, a coworker is suppose to come over sometime soon to mess with them. I will get some video recorded of them fllying.
I'm working with a friend (who makes the most ridiculous RC planes, like, VTOL, ground effect, annular wing-d, some of which have even flown :D) to make a plane with a 7MP still and 1080p video camera, both mounted on a PTZ gimble with a wireless preview camera. It's gonna be sweet, will post pics.
Where did you get your engine/radio equipment or can you just post the model that you bought? I really want to try and make one of these but when searching for radio equipment they are all WAY bigger than what you have. I am really interested in trying to make one of these for fun.
The radio is really nice and you can buy additional receivers for it. The radio can hold up to 10 models (meaning 10 receivers, or 10 setups with the same receiver or mix and match).
Yeah, it was an investment. Upfront it cost a bit of money, however buying parts keeps me from buying new planes when the crash and burn. In the long run I will have saved money.
That is true. Someday when I have a nice enough bank account where a few hundred dollars isn't TOO much, I will purchase myself the components and fly a badass plane around :D
