  • What should we role out for meta keyword/description tags? I know SEO doesn't entirely wrap around this however the first result when I google sigcont it shows

    Hello World!
  • I think we need to get the words "programming forum" in there somewhere, because Google really doesn't have anything else to base what all this content is on.

(I'll skip the part about me not knowing what the site is myself)
Programming forum would invite a lot of Q&A type threads and many users who'll register just to ask one question. @kreitje had put a nice sounding line about us before installing Vanilla. I don't remember what it was, but if you know what it was, that or something similar would be a good description. You could easily pull out keywords from it as well.
  • Anyone have a nice description? @kreitje, do you have/remember that message you'd put on the domain we got Vanilla?
  • I don't but let me see if I can find a backup or google cache of it.

    Edit:

Couldn't find it. However this is from the initial thread:
Welcome to Sigcont.com! We are a group of people who enjoy sharing knowledge.

I put some temporary stuff in there right now. I hard coded it into the master template and not a plugin. It can be found at public_html/applications/garden/views/default.master.php
    Hello World!
  • Does it make sense to change the description to "A group of people who enjoy sharing knowledge." + one more sentence mentioning words like programming, technology, etc.
and keywords to "SigCONT, programming, technology, community, discussions" + a couple more? (I'm no professional at SEO, so I don't know whether repeating technology and programming is good or bad).
  • It's basically meaningless. What is relevant is how we are described on sites linking to us.
  • The description is definitely meaningful. It is shown when Google has nothing better to show. Google "sigcont" now and you will find "Welcome to Sigcont.com! We are a group of people who enjoy sharing knowledge."
  • You only come here from Googling "sigcont" if you already knew what you're looking for. A description for that is little more than aesthetics.
  • I guess you're right. But I don't see it doing any harm...
