The second site I ever had was hosted with Tripod/Lycos (after geocities) and that was so long ago (in internet age). In my computer class in 8th grade we had to make a business, with a business plan, products, etc. One of the guys in the group got me "into" html shortly before this project and we decided that we would also build a website for this business. We ran it on Tripod and got an A and it really impressed the teacher.
Jump ahead 7 years later and I didn't know they still exist. From the TechCrunch article they just sold for $36,000,000 which to me is a lot of money, however the losses they have taken over the years is astounding.
I heard the story NPR did on it while I was driving somewhere on Monday (I think), and didn't pay much attention to it. But it's pretty crazy that they're actually still around, and that someone would pay money for this obvious dough vacuum.
