Random Extra CRT Pixels
  • I have noticed CRT TV's that have one extra pixel in the middle on the left and right edges. Does anybody know the reason for this?
  • I don't know for a fact, but I think it's for checking the amount of overscan, or making sure that overscan is even along all edges.
  • I'm sure that the pixels are always filled with video.
  • Well, I've done some searching and haven't come up with anything which I assume is why you asked on here.

My guess is still that they're used to either check video alignment, or overscan amount. There could be some test pattern that TV manufactures use to make sure that the displays overscan the correct amount.
